The Musandam Peninsula is located in the northernmost part of Arabia, just facing the Straits of Hormuz. Musandam is a land of stark and magnificent beauty, with its high and rugged mountains dropping precipitously into the blue waters of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. Although it is part of the Sultanate of Oman, it is separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Due to its strategic military location, it has remained a somewhat unknown and remote area; only in the recent past it has opened to tourism. On the other hand, it has always been a privileged trading and seafaring route, where different civilizations and cultures have met.
As well as publicizing the stupendous scenery, tourist developers are working on advertising Musandam as a diving destination.
The waters surrounding Musandam and the Straights of Hormuz provide very fine tropical coral reef diving. Plankton rich waters attract over 900 species of fish, ranging from cleaner wrasse through to whale sharks. There are over 25 established dive sites within 60 minutes boat ride of the dive centre. As the region is remote, and commercial fishing is not permitted, the volume of marine life is immediately noticed upon entering the water, and leaves a lasting impression on divers.
"Ocean Divers" diving center was founded in begining of 2005 and start operating out on Musandam peninsula for a daily diving trips & live-aboard and dhow sea cruise
We are not beginers in Musandam, around 10 years our diveteams (trained by Gunter Horman - ex-owner of Sandy Beach diving center) leading international groups for diving in most popular dive sites around Musandam peninsula
As the region is remote, and commercial fishing is not permitted, the volume of marine life is immediately noticed upon entering the water, and leaves a lasting impression on divers.
All dive sites in Musandam aquatory is protected and secured by Goverment of Sultanate of Oman.
The dive sites themselves range in character from walls to extensive coral gardens. The combination of plankton and strong local currents attract a great range of pelagic species, which includes both manta and eagle rays, along with whale sharks. The dive centre boat are often accompanied by dolphins, which like the calm waters of Musandam's fjords.
Numerous shark species can also be encountered, as well as most species of turtle. The trade off for the high concentrations of marine life is underwater visibility, which typically lies in a range from 12 and 20 metres.
Liveaboard
The Dhow's is suitable as a liveaboard or day cruiser. The maximum liveaboard capacity is 12 passengers plus skipper, crew and 1-2 PADI qualified staff. It can take 35 passengers as a day cruiser with non-divers or 25 passengers plus dive equipment as a day dive boat. Both diving and non-diving passengers can be mixed and the capacity adjusted accordingly.
Liveaboard is operate along the Eastern Coastline of UAE and Oman.
